Suspected serial killer arraigned in Bayelsa

A suspected serial murderer, Stephen Ogho- Oghene Akpata was Thursday paraded by the headquarters of Nigerian Police Force, Bayelsa State command for killing one Onyinye Faustina Eze, a staff of Globacom network at Kpansia, Bayelsa State.

Stephen Akpata who hails from Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta state according to the Commissioner of Police, CP Asoquo Amba was arrested at Badagry area of Lagos by the Police and brought back to Bayelsa state where he allegedly committed the murder.

Parading the suspect, the Commissioner of Police said that the deceased was seen face to the ground in the pool of her blood while the room was scattered adding that there were marks of violence on the deceased’s face and body which revealed that she was strangled with the pressing iron and its coil tied round her neck. He added that her body has been deposited at Federal Medical Center, Mortuary for autopsy.

The Commissioner of Police narrated that “The Police swung into action and investigation revealed that the suspect Stephen Ogho-Oghene Akpata absconded to Ghana after the murder maintaining that he returned to Badagry a few days later.

He said that the police tracked and arrested him at Badagry Lagos on 1st of September 2017 and brought him back to Bayelsa state.

The suspect he said has confessed “to have made love to the deceased at about 0500hrs to 600hrs on the 16/08/2017, shortly after making love to her, he saw a message on her phone ad suspected her infidelity adding that he became angry and argument ensued between them and the deceased”.

He added that he confessed to stabbing her with a knife on the neck and shoulder.

But the suspect said “Out of dignity and respect and love and care and decency of what has happened I deserve my right not to say anything because from the grief that her family is going through, I’m also going through a lot. And asking me the reason why, I cannot not tell you, not that I can’t but out of dignity, respect and decency of my wife, I’m going to let that go not disrespectfully but she is not here to answer. And out of that respect I love her so dearly. Whatever happened or transpired remains like that”.

He said that he I did not run away maintain that “I came back voluntarily back into Nigeria. I was apprehended in Badagry. Any way the location is not important. There are no words adequately suitable to convey the length, the breath and the width I feel for my wife. I have never killed anyone before”.

Investigations and his true confessions revealed that Akpata has served various jail terms in various detention centers in Australia, in Mount Gambia Prison, Marbymong immigration Detention centre Melboume Australia in 2008 and 2009.

But the elder sister to the deceased Alex Eze refuted the fact that he married the deceased at the registry adding that they were on the process of doing the traditional rights before the death of the lady.

He said “When a date was fixed for the man to come and do the traditional rights, he told them that he has been kidnapped and $3.5 million was collected from him by the kidnappers.

He said “we have committed a lot of things. Even my sister left her job to come for the marriage but he never showed up instead he said that he was kidnapped”

He said that the day his sister came back to Bayelsa was the day the suspect said he was released from the kidnappers den and told me that he has come and was with my sister.

“My sister also called that he was with her around 13th of August. But I told my sister to leave Bayelsa and come to Port Harcourt since his own is kidnapping. On Tuesday morning, I called my sister, but the, but it was not going. It rang out. His own was not going at all”.

He added that they have gone to check at her house and found the protector locked but the door was opened. So they involved the police who broke into the house and found her in the pool of her blood.

Also paraded was a man of forty seven years Moses Otimba from Southern Ijaw Local Government area of Bayelsa state who impregnated one Joy Mathew and latter sniffed life out of the five days old baby given birth to by the girl.

Joy latter confessed to the crime and they were arrested. Otimba however said that he was ashamed of what he has done and therefore decided to take the life of the baby. He said “ I was afraid and scared because my wife, I don’t really know how to place it and explain to her so that was why I killed the baby. I’m really sorry”

The girl who is 18 years confessed to the crime adding that she kindly gave the baby to the man.

In the same vein seven suspected cultists and a man Isa Muhammed were caught while the cultist were trying to free their at the member at the Peremabiri area of Southern Ijaw and on the process attacked one Corporal Elijah Osara. While Isa Mohammed was said to have been killing and selling vulture at the Tombia Market of the state.
