Suspected herders kill pregnant woman, husband, son in Osun

A pregnant woman, her husband, and their son were Tuesday allegedly killed along Iragbiji road in Boripe local government, Osun state.

The incident happened Tuesday night at Idi-ogogo, a village in Iragbiji, the hometown of the former governor, Adegboyega Oyetola.

A relative of the deceased who identified herself as Saida, accused Fulani herdsmen said to be angry over the alleged killing of their cow by an unknown person as being responsible for the killings.

She said, “The deceased was attacked by Fulani herdsmen. What we heard was that the herdsmen were angry over the killing of their cow by unknown people.”

She added that the pregnant woman, Kafayat, has been operated and the four victims were buried at a Muslim burial ground along Iragbiji, Thursday.

A resident in the village, who pleaded anonymity, alleged that some powerful men were behind the attempt to cover up the story.

He challenged anybody with concrete evidence to come out and prove that the deceased died in an accident.

He said there was a gunshot that caused panic at the time when the incident happened, adding, “When we got to the landlord meeting and they said a Fulani child was involved, I asked them to show where the child is, but nobody could show it till now. I asked them why there was a gunshot and no response was provided till now.”

The spokesperson of the state police command, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident.

She said information at the disposal of the police revealed that the deceased who was on a motorcycle ran into the cattle and died in the process.

Opalola said the police have commenced investigation to unravel the circumstances that led to the death of the family members
