A Shepherd-in-charge of a Celestial Church of Christ (CCC), Yemi Adetula, in Idiroko border town in Ipokia local government area of Ogun state has been murdered by suspected assasins during his sermon on Sunday.
The deceased, who was also a commander of a local security outfit established by the state government, the So-SAFE Corps was left dead after six men clad in the church garment rained bullets on him, before dismembering his body.
Sources close to the late clergyman said the deceased had in recent times been having running battles against certain smuggling cartel in Idiroko Border town, which necessitated his movement to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in December 2024.
“This development led to a forceful closure of his church; Hebrew Celestial Church in the same month of December, ’24 by some suspected smugglers with whom he allegedly had issues”, the source said.
Confirming the incident, the state commander of So-SAFE Corps, Soji Gonzalo, said the news of Adetula’s murder came as a rude shock.
He added that the corps is collaborating with other security agencies in the state to investigate the incident, while promising to bring to book the perpetrators of the dastardly act.
