The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS) at the weekend offered to join the search for the over 200 Chibok school girls in Boko Haram’s den, declaring that its decision was part of the global efforts to rescue the students.
The institution implored President Goodluck Jonathan to appropriately
consider the group’s offer in terms of location, adding “this is not all about paper presentation. We can contribute to the security and welfare of Nigerian state.”

The students were abducted by the insurgents from their school dormitory in Chibok, Borno state on April 14.
President of the institution, Mr. Ben Omo-Akhigbe, who stated this at a press briefing to mark the association’s 49th Annual General meeting in Benin City, the Edo state capital,  also lauded President Goodluck Jonathan for “galvanising the international community in the rescue mission.”

He advocated for proper mapping of the country in order to aid description, location and identification of areas that are of security concern, noting that “the best govern country are those that are mapped..”
Besides, Omo-Akhigbe also called on the National Assembly to review the act establishing Surveyor Council of Nigeria (SURCON), adding that “surveyor institution are represented by only 12 members in SURCON
since its establishment in 1989; whereas, the numbers of political appointees has increased over the years.”
He said “the incorporation of more professionals in surveyors’ council will guide and develop road map for the nation’s socio-economic development.”
