Over N8 billion has been earmarked to combat HIV/AIDS in the country, the Presidential Committee on Subsidy Reinvestment Programme (SURE-P) has disclosed.
National Convener of Maternal Child Health of SURE-P, Hajia Halima Alfa, who stated this while speaking with journalists at Ankpa, said the federal government would not relent in its efforts to curb the scourge of HIV/AIDS in the country.
She said the federal government was determined to fight HIV/AIDS to the barest minimum, explaining that part of the Presidential Committee term of reference of the on SUPE-P was to save one million lives every year in the country.
She said: “On Maternal Child Health the Committee has provided over 1,200 facilities across the town and villages. About 12,000 nurses, 500 health workers have been employed to carry out the mission to safe lives at grassroots level.
“Also, over 50 ambulances have been procured in case of emergencies, while primary health facilities are established across the 36 states of the federation.”
Alfa added that the sum of N10 billion had been set aside for graduate internship, where the federal government would pay N30, 000 and state government paid N10, 000 to every graduate who enrolled for the -internship programme.
She assured that more vocational training centres are expected to be established across the country by the SURE-P Presidential Committee.
