Chairman, Kaduna state chapter of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Malam Idris Yusuf, said that the implementation of Subsidy Re-investment Programme (SURE-P) was a huge success in the state.
Speaking in an interview with Blueprint yesterday at state’s secretariat of NUJ in Kaduna, the chairman, who is also the spokesperson of the implementing committee of SURE-P in the state, said the implementing committee applied measures to achieve the desired targets.

He said: “The SURE-P in Kaduna state as far as implementation is concerned is a success. First and foremost as a journalist, I’m proud to be in this committee apart from the single reason that I have come in and seen what has been done; I can beat my chest that I’m part of the success as a member of SURE-P in Kaduna state.
“I have been monitoring SURE-P activities in other states and I’m yet to see any state that has done as good as what Kaduna state has done because I am an active member in terms of the implementation.

“There are two separate committees that actually sat down and work. The first committee sat and came up with programmes and projects that will be used in developing the state with SURE-P fund. They looked at all sectors that this money could be used for intervention and came up with infrastructure, health, women and youth empowerment, education, security and agriculture.”
He added that in terms of accountability, the implementation committee was very serious, and that every item was put under scrutiny and “every kobo that is spent is justified because it went through so many steps before the approval was given and before the money was released.”
