Super Eagles World Cup targets keep me on my toes – Finidi George

Super Eagles coach Finidi George has admitted he will be on his toes after he was handed the target of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup and going as far as the quarterfinal of the tournament.

“The targets will keep me on my toes,” he said.

“It is an honour to be coach of the Super Eagles and I will give everything not to disappoint millions of Nigerians.”

Finidi also revealed how he was first informed about his appointment.

“The NFF president (Ibrahim Gusau) called me to break the news,” he said.

“I was with Enyimba and we were on our way for a game against Kwara United.

“But I kept it to myself until it was announced officially.”

After being caretaker coach in March in friendlies against Ghana and Mali, Finidi will lead the Super Eagles in crunch 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa (June 7, Uyo) and Benin (June 10, Abidjan).
