Super Eagles must stay focused–Mouktar

FCT FA chairman, Adam Mouktar Mohammed has urged members of Super Eagles not to brood or down casted after their unimpressive 1-1 draw with the Bafana Bafana of South Africa on Match day 3 of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Uyo, the Akwa-Ibom state capital as the team confront Benin Republic in another crucial encounter.

Mouktar made the appeal with Blueprint in a chat with our correspondent over the weekend.
The astute football administrator admonished Super Eagles to go for a win in their Match day 4 encounter against Benin Republic today in Abidjan.

“The match against Benin Republic is a must win. It’s going to be a cracker.”
“Finidi must be analytical and very smart in his approach to the game. We cannot go and play too open and too attacking minded. We must be cautious and take our chances at the right moment and then keep possession and control the game”
Mouktar wants the Super Eagles to play with great purpose and determination in order to achieve the desired victory needed in Abidjan to put on track the 2026 World Cup ticket.

Mouktar has been working tirelessly in the FCT football ecosystem, he rebranded and repositioned the Abuja Football League, empowered the various football associations in the Area Councils and built the capacity of coaches through courses and seminars.

The football technocrat called on stakeholders to rally round the newly appointed Super Eagles gaffer, Finidi George.

“ Finidi needs our support. It’s his first official game in charge of the team though we are at the critical stage of qualifying for the World Cup. The pressure is huge on Super Eagles job”

Nigeria’s Super Eagles are currently in the fifth position in Group C of the 2026 Africa World Cup qualifying series with just three points from the same number of matches.

Lesotho is currently topping the group with five points, followed by Rwanda, Benin Republic and South Africa who have four points each. While Zimbabwe is currently at the bottom with just two points.
