Sule debunks plotting exit of Adamu, Al-Makura from Nasarawa politics

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state has debunked media reports alleging that he plotted the exit of the immediate past national chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) Senators Abdullahi Adamu, and Umaru Al-Makura from the state politics.

Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Public Affairs, Comrade Peter Ahemba, denied the allegations at a press conference on Tuesday in Lafia.

He denied reports from sections of some media that the governor had planned to retire the duo from the politics of the state.

He said the relationship between the governor and other leaders of the party is intact, adding that the difference only exist in the imagination of the author of the publication.

The SSA said the governor had tremendous respect for founding fathers of the state including Adamu and Al-Makura and called on members of the public to disregard the publication in its entirety.

He said ordinarily, the governor would not have bothered responding to this mischievous publication because it was aimed at causing unnecessary friction between the him and two of his predecessors and leaders of the party in the state, “but the government had decided to address the issue to put things in their proper perspectives.

“To start with, it is public knowledge that the governor has remained consistent in his support to his predecessor, Al-Makura in all his political endeavours, including the 2023 Senatorial election which he re-contested.

“Even though the election went the other way round, Al-Makura himself demonstrated uncommon spirit of statesmanship by voluntarily withdrawing his petition challenging the outcome of the election from the tribunal.”

He added that the governor had also included the name of Al-Makura among the three names from the state to be appointed as a minister as requested by President Bola Tinubu but selected one out of the three names submitted from the state.

“The governor does not have powers to appoint a minister and even the author of the reports knows that,” the SSA added.

Ahemba, explained that the resignation of Adamu was as a result of internal disagreement among members of the National Working Committee of APC and has nothing to do with the governor.
