Subsidy: FG assures workers of better days ahead

The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan, has assured Nigerian workers of better days ahead as the federal government implements palliatives to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal.

She said this at a virtual Interactive Session with civil servants across all the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the federal government.

The virtual session was held as part of activities marking the 2023 Civil Service Week Celebration.

The Head of Service highlighted government’s plans to improve the welfare of workers worsened by the present excruciating economic conditions including the introduction of a single salary scale for workers in MDAs, allowances, palliatives and subsidised transportation.

She said the single salary scale for workers would be tied to productivity not profession.

The Head of Service also stressed the need to get a feedback from the civil servants on the ongoing transformation of the civil service.

She also highlighted a number of impactful initiatives as captured under the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021- 2025 (FCSSIP 25).

These include Induction, SMAT-P and LEAD-P, which she said were resuscitated to propel the service to compete favourably with those of other climes.

The Head of Service also spoke on the digitalisation and Performance Management System (PMS) as key drivers of high productivity.

She said the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation has been embracing digitalisation in training and examinations, Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), verification and registration exercises for promotion examination, use of official e-mail addresses, digitalisation of policy and personal files and many others.
