Stay at home, Zulum tells visiting new Shehu of Bama

Borno state governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, Wednesday hosted the new Shehu of Bama, Umar Ibn Kyari Ibn Elkanemi at the Government House, Maiduguri. 

The new Shehu visited the governor to pay traditional homage and register his loyalty to government after his appointment.

Umar was appointed Shehu of Bama on 4th May, 2020 by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, after the demise of his father. 

Governor Zulum thanked Shehu for the visit and tasked him to lead his subjects justly.

The governor however warned in strong terms that under no circumstance should the emir operate in Diaspora. 

“I will not accept any emir operating outside his domain. Government of Borno state will not allow any emir to operate outside his domain.

“I have spent six months in Bama when I was a commissioner and nothing happened to me,” Zulum said. 

Governor Zulum informed the new emir that his appointment was based on the recommendation by the Bama emirate council kingmakers.

“Sequel to the recommendation by the kingmakers, I have had series of consultations both within and outside Bama. I am pleased to inform you that 95% of those I have consulted favoured you, ” Zulum said. 

Speaking earlier, Shehu Umar Ibn Kyari Elkanemi, expressed appreciation to Governor Zulum for appointing him as the emir of Bama. He also assured him that he will not fail him or disappoint with the confidence reposed in him.

“Your Excellency sir, I am here for thank you visit and inform you that we have already set a date for the traditional installation, The date is Saturday 9th, May 2020, in Bama, Insha Allah,” Shehu  Umar said.
