Standing committees: APC senators clinch 48 of 74 slots, PDP grabs 18, LP 4, SDP 2, APGA 1, YPP 1 

 

Out of the 74 Standing Committees of the 10th Senate unveiled on Monday, Senators belonging to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), got 48 Chairmanship positions.

Senators belonging to the major minority party in the Senate , the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP ) got 18 chairmanship positions of the committees while those on the platform of Labour Party (LP) got 4  and their counterparts on the platform of Social Democratic Party (SDP) 2.

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (APGA Abia South) on the strength of his ranking status, got one, just as Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah (Anambra South) secured committee chairmanship. 

However , none of the two senators on the platform of New Nigeria Peoples Party ( NNPP ) got chairmanship position of any of the standing committees.

This is as Senator Siyako Yaro Anthony (PDP Gombe South) declared that the list is being analysed by PDP senators.

Senator Siyako, who got Vice Chairmanship of Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGO, told Blueprint Newspapers in an exclusive interview in his office on Tuesday, that it was too early to comment on  whether the committees composition is one sided or not .

“I don’t want to see composition of the committees from the perspective of political parties , since Senate is one but nonetheless, the composition is still being analysed . Let see when the water settles,” he said.

Chairmanship of the 74 Standing Committees as announced by President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio on Monday are Senators Akwashiki Godiya (Airforce), Udende Emmanuel (Anti Corruption and Financial Crimes), Buhari Abdulfatai (Aviation), Osita Izunaso (Capital Market) and Cyril Fasuyi (Establishment and Public Services).

Others are Senators Seriake Dickson (Ecology and Climate Change), Aminu Tambuwal (Housing and Urban Development ), Adams Oshiomhole (Interior ), Jide Ipisagba (Petroleum Downstream), Ahmad Lawan (Defence ), Aliyu Wadada (Public Accounts) , Kaka Shehu Lawan (Special Duties ), Idiat Oluranti ( Sustainable Development Goals), Patrick Ndubueze (Works ) and Solomon Adeola (Appropriations).
