Stakeholders meet, set agenda for Africa’s development

African leaders have advocated reforms that could transform the landscape of development by re jigging the process of electing leaders in the continent.

The leaders made the submission at the 2024 Democracy Dialogue organised by Goodluck Jonathan Foundation  in Benin City, Edo state capital.

The event has as its theme: “Functional education and effective political leadership as a panacea to Africa’s growth and development.”

Former presidents of the Republic of Benin, Thomas Boni Yayi, Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta and Nigeria’s former president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, sued for the deepening of democratic governance and leadership in Africa.

Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, highlighted some achievements of President Bola Tinubu, including providing education for 2 million out of-school-children through deliberate policies of the government.

The keynote speaker, Prof. Olubayi Olubayi, the Chief Academic Officer, Maarifa Education holding and chairman, University Council, Cavendish, University of Kenya, challenged African leaders to fund research and innovative technology.

He also sued for special attention to be given to science education and creation of special schools for gifted and most talented children in Africa where privileged and underprivileged children can live their dreams.
