Southern Kaduna killings avoidable-CAN

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kaduna state yesterday said the killings ravaging Southern Kaduna area would have been avoided if governments at all levels and security agencies gave it priority.
The association added that there is need for Federal and Kaduna state governments in collaboration with security agencies to sincerely put heads together and bring about adequate security for the protection of lives and property.
It also appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan and Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero to help internally displaced persons with foods, clothes and other relief materials in view of their suffering in make shift camps.
Its spokesperson in Sanga local government, Pastor Michael Maikarfi who in a statement disclosed said “If government at all levels, security agencies and all critical stakeholders have taken necessary steps, the crises in Sanga and elsewhere would have been avoided. And so our plea to government at all levels is to step up and do more so that peace will return and lives will be save in view of our situation.”
On peace initiatives in the area, CAN said “A delegation through the state’s bureau for religious affairs came to Sanga and held a meeting on 29th September with leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), traditional rulers and some stakeholders. At present, Sanga community has just resorted to dialogues that are presently going on at the instances of the District heads with representatives of the various ethnic groups in each of the 18 Districts of Sanga Local Government Area.
“Following the incessant attacks in Sanga LGA from May this year which has so far claimed over 300 lives, Sanga Chapter of CAN set up a 9-member committee which was saddled with the task of prayerfully exploring every avenue and taking possible steps to help end the continuous attacks on innocent lives,” he said.
