Anambra state governor Professor Chukwuma Soludo on Friday kicked off the rehabilitation of 1.7 kilometres of internal road networks at the state-owned Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH) Amaku, Awka.
The Director, Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), Mr. Ossy Onuko, whose agency was carrying out the project, said the infrastructure projects would, upon completion in a few days, improve the health and general well-being of users of the hospital.
He said the rehabilitation included total reconstruction, constructing and asphalting of new roads to enhance the hospital accessibility and appearance, while maintaining quality assurance for ease vehicular movements to all.
He said further that the governor directed his office to supervise the project due to their commitment to deliver quality infrastructure development across the state capital territory, including the COOUTH where he recently established a trauma center, among other projects.
Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director of COOUTH, Dr. Joe Akabuike, commended the governor for the internal roads construction which, according to him, further confirmed that he prioritised health care and infrastructure development.
“Governor Soludo’s vision is to transform the teaching hospital into a hub for medical tourism, with state-of-the-art facilities and skilled human resources as these will reduce the need for Nigerians to seek medical care abroad,” he said.
