Armed soldiers on Wednesday night opened fire on a mobile police officer in Kafanchan, Jema’a local government area of Kaduna state, security sources in the area told our reporter last night.

They said the armed soldiers stationed at a check point at Timber Shade Market in the area opened fire on the police officer after a hot argument ensued between them over his possession of service gun while in mufti.
One of the sources said: “It was at the timber shade area that it happened around 10pm; we heard gun shots and later we were told that they warned the police not to move and he moved after which one of them shot him dead.”
Another version had it that the police officer was in uniform and that it was a cold war that resulted into conflict.

The last version had it that he was in mufti and rebuffed interrogation by the soldiers manning the checkpoint.
All attempts to speak to the spokesman, 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Col. Usman Abdul, and as well spokesman of Kaduna state Police Command, Supt. Aminu Lawan, were unsuccessful as they did not return calls put across to them.
In another development, a herdsman was said to have been killed yesterday in Sanga local government area. Although details were scanty, one Wakili Salihu Fadan Karshe told our reporter that one Malam Isa Manu was killed and that they had buried him at Maraban Sabon Gida.
The chairman of the local government, Hon. Emmanuel Adamu, could not be reached for further clarification.
