Sokoto state government has donated 38-seater bus to the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Sokoto state chapter.
Presenting the bus at a mini-ceremony to the union leaders who paid
him a solidarity visit on Wednesday, the governor of Sokoto state, Alhaji Aliyu Magatakardan Wamakko, urged the NUT members to live up to their responsibilities.
The governor said his administration would continue to consider the welfare of teachers to motivate them “so that they would continue to give their best in the advancement of education in Sokoto state.”
He said his administration was committed to providing quality education to the people, adding that the enrollment in to tertiary institution had significantly increased.
According to him, the number of JAMB students has increased, from 3, 000 when he came on board, to 17, 000.
He reminded the teachers that the society was looking up to them to educate and nurture their children whom the governor said would, in a matter of time, be the leaders of tomorrow.
He said: “If the foundation stone was solid, the structures cannot fall, therefore, I want to urge you to continue to give your best so that together we build and provide sound education for our children.”
The governor said administration was ready to assist anybody willing to further his education within or outside the country.
He said his administration had established five tertiary institutions across the state, two of which had already commenced academic activities, while three others would commence activities before June, this year.
Earlier, in his address, the state NUT chairman, Alhaji Chika Maidamma, said they paid a solidarity visit to the governor and express their sincere thanks for implementing 18 per cent minimum wage and other welfare services to members.
