Sokoto state governor, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu, has cautioned the Sokoto state Hisbah commission’s vanguard against human right violation.
He also charged them to work hand in hand with security operatives in the state
The governor, who stated this while inaugurating the reconstituted Hisbah vanguard and commissioning of their state headquarters, said that the Hisbah commission was reestablished to assist in keeping the state more secured.
He noted that they are not alternate to the conventional security agencies
“Hsbah is not a state police but an organised body established to sanitise Muslims in the state.
” Police should also know that Hisbah is not a rival to its conventional operations and when they make arrest, suspects would be handed over to the police for onward prosecution at the court.
He said that his administration saw the need to reconstitute the Hisbah commission which was neglected by the immediate past administration in view of the increasing moral decadence among youth
He said that the government will put eyes on activities of the Hisbah with a view to ensure human right is strictly adhere to
” Your activities will be checked and be under watch not to violate unduly intimidate or molest the public during operations,
” The Hisbah operations has suffered set back in the caliphate due to neglect by the immediate past government of PDP in the state.
“The essence of reviving the Hisbah was to promote islamic culture, morals discipline and values in line with the tenets of the religion for societal peace and development to thrive,” the governor pointed out
” The state Hisbah would be encouraged to rid the state of social vices against consequences driven by negative morals and behaviours”, the governor stated
Aliyu also said that promoting religious activities was cardinal and in line with his administration’s 9-points Smart agenda stressed that he would continue to give religious affairs deserving attention.
He said that the government has made necessary provisions for vehicles and motorcycles as well monthly imprests for their operations added that very soon he will inaugurate local government offices for expanded operations to commence.
He said that competent persons had been appointed to run the board for all operations to be coordinates within the ambit of the laws.
Also speaking, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar lll, who was represented by Waziri Sokoto, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, appreciated and welcomed the re-establishment and revival of Hisbah in the state
He hoped that the Hisbah will strengthen its operations in order to boost and encourage moral sanity.
” This will positively influence trust and sanity among citizens and reshape and enrich them in faith for societal benefit”, the Sultan stated
Earlier speaking, the state commissioner for Religious Affairs, Dr Jabir Sani Maihula , said the revival of the state Hisbah , a body to operate under the coordination of the ministry was to ethical principles and strengthen societal morals m accordance with islamic values.
