Sokoto assembly reaffirms commitment to health sector

The Sokoto State House of Assembly has re-affirmed its commitment towards improving good healthcare delivery in the state.

This was contained in a press statement issued and made available to newsmen in Sokoto by the Public Relations Officer of the ministry of health, Alhaji Nura Maikwanchi.

According to the statement, chairman house  committee on health Alhaji Kabiru Dauda Tsitse, gave the assurance while commissioning newly renovated main operating theater of Specialist hospital Sokoto renovated by the management of the hospital.

Kabiru who represented the Speaker of the state house of assembly, Tukur Bala Bodinga, said this was to improve the health status of people of the state.

He said that the house will consult the state government on how best to provide additional modern hospital machines and other consumable items to the hospital for its to effective operation.

He however praised the commitment of the management of the hospital for carrying out the renovation and stressed the need to ensure proper maintenance.

Speaking, the state commissioner for Health, Hajiya Asabe Balarabe, who represented by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Alhaji Abubakar Ahmed Sokoto Walin Gagi, appreciated the effort of the hospital in that regards,

The commissioner challenged other hospitals, parastatals and agencies under the ministry to borrow a leaf from the management of specialist hospital Sokoto for further improvement of health sector in the state.

Balaraba assured the ministry’s readiness to assist the hospital where necessary.

Speaking earlier, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital Dr Attahiru Isah Sokoto said that he deemed it necessary to embark on the renovation of all sections of the hospital including the main operating theater in view of their serious state of dilapidation.

Dr Attahiru Isah expressed dismay over the lukewarm attitude as well as the way the past management of the hospital allowed it in a poor condition.

To this end, he commended the ministry of health for its unwavering commitment to improving the activities of the hospital and all sectors of health in the state.
