The proponent of the National Commission for the Coordination and Control of the Proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NATCOM) Bill, Dr. Baba Mohammed, has expressed optimism that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will assent to the legislation, citing its significance for national security and socio-economic stability.
Dr. Mohammed, who also holds the traditional title of Madaki of Ankpa, made the remarks while receiving a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Garba Adamu Chiroma, at the NATCOM headquarters in Asokoro, Abuja.
During their discussions, both leaders examined the Tinubu administration’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, describing it as a transformative initiative for Nigeria.
Alhaji Chiroma commended Dr Mohammed’s leadership in advancing the NATCOM Bill, highlighting its alignment with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Convention on Small Arms and Light Weapons.
The visit concluded with a tour of the NATCOM office, a facility recently donated by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, as the commission awaits the president’s approval.
