Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno has asserted that the counter insurgency operations against the  Boko Haram in Borno and Lake Chad Basin region  may not soon end as expected  being anticipated by people and government.

The governor said the terrorists have  gone ahead to adopt the strategy of sending  drones to monitor and track down  the Nigerian military and the Multi-national Joint Task Force operations in all the affected areas surrounding the Sambisa Forest and  Lake Chad Basin.

He said the terrorists appear to possess better technological weapons of warfare better than the military and without the Nigerian military adopting proper and up-to-date warfare over the terrorists, the war would never end so soon.

The governor stated this Tuesday at the Council Chamber of  the  Government House, Maiduguri when he received the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and his entourage, principal officers, the eight Representatives from the state and  Speaker Borno state Assembly, Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan and  the 28 members.

Professor Zulum said, “This Boko Haram war may not end soon because the terrorists now deploy drones in the military counter insurgency operations to monitor their operations.

“The terrorists seem to possess better technological weapons of warfare than the military.

“Without adopting proper and up-to-date technological warfare edge over  the Boko Haram, this war will never end,”  he said.

In his address, Gbajabiamila said the House will in collaboration with the Senate ensure that the manpower capacity of the Nigerian military to meet with the contemporary challenges of the fight against insurgency among others.

“The House of Representatives will among other issues consider increasing the numerical strength of security personnel in the North-east to meet up with the personnel challenges.

“Also, the issue of modern and sophisticated  equipment and other armouries for the Nigerian military will be considered by the House to ensure there is adequate security in the North-east region among others,” Femi said.

President Muhammadu Buhari had days back said the real Boko Haram terrorists had been defeated in the war against insurgency.
