Shiroro killings: HYPPADEC unveils Rescue Village for IDPs in Niger

The Hydro Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) has unveiled a unique shelter known as Rescue Village for internally displaced persons affected by bandits in Shiroro local government area of Niger state.

Its managing director, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, unveiled the shelter Thursday in Kuta, saying that over 250 tents had been provided.

He disclosed that the Commission was carrying out the shelter project in collaboration with a non-government organisation, the New Approach Humanitarian Aid Support.

According to him, the Rescue Village at Kuta, the headquarters of Shiroro local government council, will comprise 250 tents of between 10 and 20 per location.

Yelwa said the Commission had also donated relief materials to those displaced in the bandits’ attack in the area, adding “we sympathise with the affected people.”

In a remark, the Secretary to the Niger State Government (SSG), Alhaji Ibrahim Matane, revealed that Communities affected were Manta, Galadima Kogo, Alawa, Gwadara Alawa, Gurmana.

Also, the head of operations/financial advisor, New Approach for Rural Programme on Skills Development, Dr. Lilian Omekara, said the initiative would provide shelter and immediate succour to the victims.
