The Nigerian Shippers Council has urged the Port Health Services to be time conscious, efficient, orderly and shun corruption.
The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of NSC, Hassan Bello gave this charge during a courtesy visit to the Port Health Services Department for collaboration between the agencies, over the implementation of the Nigerian Ports Process Manual (NPPM), in the Federal Ministry of Health Abuja.
Bello added that all cargo should come to Nigeria before they are distributed to other countries
“We are in competition with the West African region and central Africa.
He stated that Port Health Services are internationally recognized, they are the first to board the vessel and tell the condition of the ship and the crew that came with the ship.
“Nigeria port is costly but is not on formal charges and no agency can raise charges without the approval of the shippers’ council.
Responding, the Port Health Services Director, Dr. Geoffrey Okatubo, said any ship coming to Nigeria its temperature and PSR will be check because of the COVID-19 virus.
Okatubo further stated that the agency is interested in countries like Brazil, India and South Africa because of the virus, which has devastated the world.
