Shettima, Kadafur, others attend Monguno’s funeral prayer 

 

The vice president, Senator Kashim Shettima, accompanied by the acting governor of Borno state,  Hon. Umar Usman Kadafur, were among the thousands of sympathisers that attended the funeral rite of late Alhaji Tahir Mohammed Monguno, father of the Senator representing Northern Borno, Sen. M.T. Monguno, who died yesterday night at University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, after a protracted illness.

The funeral prayer was performed by Imam Idaini of Borno, Imam Shettima Mamman Shettima Sale.

The vice president was in the company of Deputy Senate President, Sen.Barau Jibrin, Sen. Mohammed Ali Ndume, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, Minister of Solid Minerals and former Senator Bakaka Bashir Garbai.

The acting governor expressed sympathy and prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased and for the immediate Family the fortitude and courage to bear the loss. He also prayed for Allah to grant him Aljannatul Firdausi.

He described the deceased as a father- figure, community leader, and unifying factor who contributed greatly to society and the state.

The late Munguno, aged 95, passed away Saturday night after a protracted illness. He left behind 17 children and grant children.

The dignitaries who attended the funeral prayers  include members of the National Assembly, Secretary to Borno State Government, Hon.Tijjani Bukar, former deputy governor, Hon. Usman Mamman Durkwa, members of the Borno state House of Assembly, commissioners, deputy chief of staff, Alhaji Haruna Hassan Tela, special advisers, SSA/SA’s, permanent secretaries, Islamic clerics, politicians, among other top government functionaries.

The funeral prayer took place at the residence of Sen. Monguno’s old GRA, Maiduguri.
