Katsina state government has inaugurated a seven-member state standing committee on interfaith.
Inaugurating the committee, Governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema directed it to liaise with security agencies and indentify problems that might arise within the society “so as to know how to offer solution to such problems.”
“You should solicit the support of traditional institutions and other stakeholder to achieve success,” he said.
Shema further directed the committee to enhance understanding and cooperation between the two faiths.
The governor, who appreciated the current peace in the state, said Katsina indigenes had been living for many years with other tribes without any hindrances.
Shema called on other states of the federation to establish similar committees in view of its importance in promoting peaceful coexistence.
He called on committee members to fear God and dedicated themselves in discharging their assignment.
Responding, chairman of the committee, Isa Mohammed Dodo, pledged the readiness of the committee to do “everything possible to promote peaceful coexistence amongst different faiths” in the state.
