Sharia Area and Customary Courts Judges Association of Nigeria (SACCJAN) has declared to join the three-day warning strike to be embarked upon by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) on Wednesday.
President of the union, Alhaji Zakariya Adamu, who made the statement during its national congress meeting at the weekend, warned that the strike was necessary because of the non-implementation of court’s judgment on the independence of judiciary by the governments.
He said the warning strike was a result of failure by government to obey the court’s directive on the implementation of independence of Nigerian judiciary.
“Federal High Court in Abuja passed a judgment in favour of JUSUN for independence of judiciary, and both state and the federal governments are yet to implement it, and did not appeal the judgment rather,” he said.
He directed all his members across the country to close their courts from Wednesday March 12 to Friday 14, 2014 to observe warning strike.
He said that all the state executive officers of the union would be held responsible for non-compliance.
