#SexForGrades: NASS tasks school administrators on morality

The 9th National Assembly is poised to put school administrators on their toes with a view to checking sexual harassment in schools.

Representative Babajimi Benson (APC-Lagos) made this known Thursday in Abuja after the house honoured the best teachers in the country.

He said that the BBC report on sex- for – grades in which it was alleged that Nigerian teachers were harassing students was very unfortunate.

According to the lawmaker, the school involved in the scandal has commenced disciplinary actions against the teachers.
“Our job is to provide oversight and budgetary allocation, we promise to do that effectively in the 9th Assembly and also put the school administrators on their toes. The 9th Assembly takes education very seriously,” he said.

The BBC had on Monday released a video clip indicting a University of Lagos lecturer soliciting for sex from a female student in return for good grades.

The outrage over the alleged sex-for-grades scandal pushed the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call for an investigation and sanctions on the lecturer in order to sanitise the system. (NAN)
