Senator Lawal Adamu’s alleged assassination plot

Penultimate Wednesday, Senator Lawal Adamu Usman posted in his Facebook that he was attacked by political thugs in Kaduna North local government area of Kaduna state. The senator had gone to Kaduna North to inspect his constituency projects. He wrote, “Subahanallah, I escaped assassination attempt from thugs in Kaduna North”. His post has elicited condemnation from sympathisers and political fans. The alleged attack by hired political thugs against Senator Lawal Adamu Usman is unfortunate and stands condemned.

However, the posers begging for answers are: Who are the thugs? Who sponsored them? Why do they want to kill Senator Lawal Adamu Usman? Since his election in 2023 as a senator, representing Kaduna central, some politicians have been uncomfortable and feel threatened by his towering popularity and political sagacity.

While former senators who represented the good people of Kaduna central could not point at any viable projects to their credit or had performed bellow expectations, Senator Lawal Adamu Usman is distinguishing himself and proving he is in the red chamber to improve the lives of his constituents. He set the ball rolling by redefining the politics from primitive wealth accumulation to that anchored on services delivery.

For instance, on February 2, 2023, the National Eye Centre Act (Amendment) Bill, 2023 (SB 83) was sponsored by Senator Lawal Adamu Usman and passed its first reading. When passed into law, the bill will put the National Eye Centre in Kaduna into a better position to attend to the ever increasing demand for better eye care service delivery.

Another bill is the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Kaduna State (Establishment) Bill, 2023 (SB. 237). The Bill has passed its first reading on the floor of the Senate.

Amidst growing concerns over the dearth of medical doctors in the country, the establishment of the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Science Kaduna will go a long way towards providing trained and qualitative medical doctors in the country. His recent Bill for an Act to Amend the Compulsory, Free Universal Basic Education Act, 2004, currently at its second reading stage, is poised to revolutionise the education landscape of Nigeria. The bill if passed into law will address the menace of out of school children in the country.

Senator Lawal  Adamu Usman’s exceptional performance in the senate goes beyond sponsoring of bills. His youths empowerment programme, where 1000 youths were identified and 500 thousand cash doled out to them as start up capital, is one of the best in the country. This is followed by another programme where hundreds of youths and women hd skills acquisition training and economically empowered.

The award of scholarship to hundreds of students has improved access to tertiary education and lessened the burden of less-privilege parents. Moreover, to his credit, within the period of less than two years, many communities were provided with solar boreholes and solar lights. The building of 100 ambitious classrooms across the senatorial district will improve school enrollment and bridge infrastructure gap. Senator Lawal Adamu Usman’s scorecard has shocked his detractors.

One had expected his political opponents to reel out their achievements instead of sponsoring thugs to go after his life. The alleged assassination attempt on Senator Lawal Adamu Usman should be properly investigated, culprits identified and brought to book. Senator Lawal Adamu Usman cannot be threatened by political buccaneers whose stock in trade is to intimidate and stop him from delivering democracy dividends to the good people of Kaduna central.
