Senator Lamido to Indian bound students: Shun lawlessness, be good ambassadors of Nigeria

The Senator representing Sokoto East Senatorial District APC, Alhaji Ibrahim Lamido, has advised youth from his constituency to embrace education, stressing that it’s the only way to liberate and make themselves more productive members of the society

Senator Lamido who gave the advice while presenting admission letters to first batch of the 100 youth he sponsored to study health related and engineering courses in Indian Universities

He said that the candidates were children of the poor , drawn from the eight local government areas that included Sabon Birni, Isa, Gada , Illela, Gwadabawa, Goronyo, Raba and Wurno which made up the senatorial district

The senator who was represented by the member, representing Gwadabawa/Illela federal Constituency, Alhaji Bello Isah Ambarura, opined that the insecurity challenges being faced in the area was partly fuelled by ignorance and poverty

Lamido noted that the insecurity challenges can be addressed if the government and well to do people can assist to provide good education to teeming youth in the area

Senator Lamido also noted that it is only good education and youth empowerment can counter the youth and frustrate any attempt by some bad people to recruit youth of the region into banditry.

Speaking on the scholarship, senator Lamido said N 900m have so far been expended to cater for their tuition accommodation, allowances, air ticket and other expenses

“Already all the expenses of the students such as School fees, accommodations ,flight tickets, health have been settled and this cost over N 900 million

He said that first batch of 43 successful candidates would leave Nigeria to New Delhi this month while the second batch will join them before the end of this year

He said that all the students were screened and were found qualified by the relevant authorities in Nigeria and India

In his remarks, a member representing Tangaza/Gudu– (APC),federal constituency, Alhaji Sani Yakubu tasked the state government to live up to its responsibility

He said that people are living in hunger and penury , yet the state government is spending huge money on flamboyance

He challenged the governor of Sokoto state Dr. Ahmed Aliyu to come out and declare the amount he collected from the federal from May 2023 to date

Yakubu said that the federal government has each month releases huge amount of money for the development of local government areas alleged that here in Sokoto money were misapplied

He said that the governor must account all the 23 local government councils and state government money accrued to the state

Also speaking, the Sole Administrator of Goronyo local government council, Alhaji Kabiru S.Fulani said the beneficiaries chosen irrespective of political or familiy inclinations .

Fulani who is also the chairman of the foundation charged the beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture by concentrating on their academic activities urged them to be good ambassadors of the Sokoto state while in India.

The ceremony was held at command guest Inn, 8 Division Giginya barracks Sokoto and was attended by APC to notcher from the zone but no state government official attended the event
