Senator Kuta dies at 64, Niger mourns

The Senator representing Niger East Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Dahiru Awaisu Kuta, has died at the age of 64.
Niger state Governor, Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, announced the passing of the Senator yesterday in Minna.

He said: “We work up this morning to the sad news of the death of our Senator Dahiru Awaisu Kuta. We are shocked by his death. Let me express with deep sense of loss the death of Senator Dahiru Awaisu Kuta. For me, it’s a personal loss. The late senator was a brother and a friend. For Niger state and Nigeria as a country, he would be missed in the area of positive contributions on issues at the National Assembly.”
Aliyu in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary Mr. Israel A. Ebije, said the late Senator would sadly add to the number of prominent sons and daughters of Nigeria who died just within the space of one month.

The late senator was born on June 4, 1949. He was a seasoned politician, administrator whose service to Niger state and Nigeria span beyond 30 years.
He was elected into the Niger state House of Assembly in 1983 as a member. He was also a member of the House of Representatives in 1993. He was appointed Deputy Director Admin at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) headquarters in 1998.

In 1999, he was appointed Secretary to State Government (SSG) by the Engr. Abdulkadir Kure led administration. He started his civil service career in North–western states and in 1978 was Secretary Sports council Niger state for three years before joining politics.
A family member said he died in Lagos on his way to London for medical treatment and that his corps was expected for burial by 4pm yesterday in Minna.
The late senator was survived by his wife and children.
