Senate probes CCT chairman over assault on security man

The Senate has put machinery in motion for full investigation into allegation of assault by the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal ( CTT), Danladi Umar.

Umar had shown in a viral video recently, was alleged to have physically assaulted  one Clement Sagwak at  the popular Banex Shopping Plaza in Abuja. 

Drawing the attention of the Senate  to the incident on Tuesday during plenary through a petition, Senator Itstifanus  Gyang (PDP, Plateau North )  informed the Senate that the CCT Chairman subjected Sagwak to thorough beating and even inflicted injuries on him.

Incidentally , Sagwak is from Gyang’s Senatorial District in Plateau State. 

President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawal sought to know if the matter was already before any court of law and was informed to the contrary. 

The petition was immediately referred to the Senate’s Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions for comprehensive investigation. 

The Senate Committee was given four weeks within which to conclude its investigation and submit report for ,àSenate’s action. 

The Senate had in the past conducted many investigations about the conduct of public officers including former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
