The Senate Thursday passed for second reading , bill seeking for establishment of Federal College of Education in Igbekebo, Ondo state.
Passage of the bill for second reading , followed lead debate made by its sponsor, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim (APC Ondo South) and supportive contributions by Senators.
Senator Ibrahim in his lead debate said the bill seeks to amend the Federal Colleges of Education Act to establish Federal College of Education Igbekebo, Ondo state.
According to him, the existence of a sound and robust educational system in any country, is predicated on the availability of qualified and well trained teachers to impact the required knowledge on the students.
He added that the proposed institution when established, will act as agents and catalyst for effective educational system, through post graduate training, research and innovation, for effective economic utilisation and conservation of the country ‘s human resources.
“The proposed institution when established , will open up the entire Igbekebo area of Ondo South which over the years, had no single tertiary institution owned by the state or federal government”, he stressed.
The Senate accordingly after supportive contributions made by Senators for establishment of the college of Education, passed it for second reading and mandated its committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETfund to make futher legislative inputs into it and report back in four weeks.
