Sen Goje urges FG to intervene on ownership of oil wells in North-east

Senator Danjuma Goje of Gombe state has urged the federal government to intervene in the ongoing controversy over ownership of the oil wells recently discovered at the border community between Bauchi and Gombe states.

Goje who spoke at a retreat organised for Gombe state cabinet members designate in Gombe said the kalmoni river where the oil discovery was made is located in Gombe, not Bauchi state.

He added that Kolmani is a village located in Akko local government area of Gombe State.

He said the oil discovery was not only significant to the continued unity and stability of the country but also its economic development.

In his remark, Gombe state Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya urged the incoming cabinet members to promote effective governance in the state.

He also revealed that the appointed commissioners are to be responsible for the development and implementation of policies, programs and projects of the state government.

“You were selected because of our fame conviction that your wealth of experience is such that will make you offer honest and sincere advice that will be used in promoting effective governance.

“You should, therefore, be focused in the discharge of your duties bearing in mind the priorities of the government. You are also to ensure that agencies under your ministries are effective, efficient and prudent in the discharge of their responsibilities.

“As for the permanent secretaries, you are the brain box governance, you are the technocrats charge with the responsibilities of guiding political leaders in ensuring that rules of governance are strictly adhered to.

Also speaking, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha the state executive council must be accountable to the people of the state.

 He said the training which is a follow up to the retreat conducted by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration for the newly appointed ministers would help in ensuring inter-governmental collaboration for national unity and development.

“This call to service requires all of you to fully share in the governor’s vision and agenda for the state. As members of the governor’s team it behooves on you to join him in providing the leadership required to develop the state and lift the people out of poverty,” the SGF added.
