Scrap, waste currently valued at N200bn in Nigeria – NASWDEN

 

National Association of Scrap and Waste Dealers Employers of Nigeria (NASWDEN) has revealed that scrap and waste is currently valued at N200 billion.

The Chairman of the association, Comrade John Egaji Obeh at the 2024 special delegate conference themed: Operation Say No to Vandals and illegal Ticketers on our Highway in Abuja on Thursday said the value of scrap in the industry as of today is an average of 750,000 per ton of scrap metal.

He said they have some of grade 1,2, 3 which comprises of different kinds of iron and the highest is about N800,000 per ton as of today .

He said they are launching a campaign to create sanity to the industry adding the spate of vandals in country has contributed to the high value of scrap.

He lamented the spate of  vandalisation of  government installation, private properties and the essence of the campaign is to reduce radically the cost of vandals in the country.

He said it will also bring sanity to the business and it can increase the new volume to the end users who are using scrap material. 

“We have just inaugurated a task force and with your collaboration with security agencies, civil defense and the police, we are ready to hit the ground from tomorrow, November, 8th, 2024 and we are going to work together with all the security agents.

“Our team will start to inspect any scrap truck moving around in Nigeria today, our inspection team will checkmate that truck to know the content in that truck.
