Schools enjoined to embrace sports

Principal of the Immaculate Conception Secondary School Bauchi Reverend Moses Agada has advocated the introduction of sporting activities in secondary schools across the country opining that they serve as morale booster to students.
The principal made this call during the closing ceremony of the 9th annual inter-house athletics competition of the school held on Saturday.
He noted that exercise was one of the key elements that have been discovered to be vital for the overall development of a healthy human body hence the need for sporting activities in schools.
“Exercises through sporting activities have been proved to have positive correlation with physical, mental and academic excellence among students, in addition to being a worldwide agent of socialization and globalization, sports is also a means of national socio-economic integration” He said.
Agada added that apart from laying emphasis on the teaching of physical and health education in schools and colleges, the federal ministry of education should encourage sports competitions by organizing inter-collegiate games so as to boost students’ morale.
According to him, the annual inter-house competition was meant to enable the students to show-case their talents in sports pointing out that some national sports icons were brought to lime light by schools sports competitions.
Blueprint gathered that the houses that participated in various games during the sports included; Saint James’ red house, Saint John’s white house, Saint Joseph’s yellow house and Saint Mary’s green house.
Our Correspondent reports that saint Joseph’s yellow house emerged as the overall winner having scored 315 points.
