Sardauna Koro hails Sen Jibrin on oversight, Customs’ revenue drive

The Sardauna Koro Babba and Sarkin Yakin Fadan Talakawa, High Chief Enoch N. Fada, has commended the high level of legislative and oversight roles of the Chairman Senate Committee on Customs, Senator Isah Jibrin, with regard to the revival of the Nigerian economy amid cost of living challenges.

Senator Isah Jibrin, who represents Kogi East senatorial district and also the chairman of the 17-man Senate Ad-hoc Committee on Ways and Means, has brought improvement to the country’s financial resources management through his steering efforts which have increased the revenues of the Nigerian Customs Service.

Speaking with Blueprint, Wednesday at his palace in Bwari, Federal Capital Territory, (FCT) Abuja, High Chief Enoch described Senator Jibrin’s oversight as rewarding, saying his push for the Nigerian Customs Service to increase its revenue target in the 2024 drive has resulted in the agency likely to overshoot its target.

“You know that the Customs revenue target in the 2024 budget was projected at N5.079 trillion, but because Senator Jibrin’s committee maintained that all hands must be on deck to save the country from borrowing through increase in internally generated revenue, that target will be overshot this year.

“For instance, the Apapa Area One Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) recently announced collection of over N1.8 trillion in revenue for the first 10 months of 2024, marking a 101% increase compared to the N931 billion collected during the same period in 2023,” he said.

The traditional ruler also pointed to the huge constituency projects done by the amiable senator over the last couple of years of his legislative engineering at the National Assembly, saying the senator is a workaholic in lawmaking.

“From my account of his projects in the 9 local governments constituting his Kogi South senatorial district, Senator Isah Jibrin has executed at least 400 projects touching on the lives of the people of the senatorial district. Those are electricity, water, agriculture, road and electrification projects in Ankpa, Dekina, Olamaboro, Ofu, Bassa, Igalamela, Omala and Idah local government areas of the state,” he said.

Besides, according to High Chief Enoch Fada, Senator Jibrin has built the capacity of the youths, empowered the women and secured gainful employment opportunities to the people of his senatorial district in manners that no lawmaker from his constituency has done, saying the legislative, representative and oversight performances of the lawmaker are a product of his sound economic and political background.
