Sardauna Foundation sues for peace

National security is the collective responsibility of all Nigerians irrespective of social, ethnic or religious affiliation, the chairman of the Advisory Council of the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, (SABMF) and the former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Mamman Nasir, has said.

In a statement in Kaduna, foundation said  that lack of unity of purpose in the campaign against insecurity challenges, has led to divisions and disunity amongst citizens.
The body, therefore, urged the federal and state governments, especially those affected by the insurgency in Nigeria to unite in the fight against insecurity.
According to him, “Nigerian soldiers have fought gallantly in the second world was in Europe and Asia and have been acclaimed world wide as good peace keepers but is has now found itself unable to protect its own territory to the extent that a small group of dissidents with status of minus zero power not only insults but spite the President and Governors, with all of us looking or pretending to look incapable of doing anything.”

The Foundation advised the President to eschew and swallow the insults and political abuse and be a statesman and not just a politician and restore peace before the end of this year. He said “I will visit the President, eat and dance in front of the media in Aso Rock Villa if peace has improved by the year end”.
The Foundation also appeals to politicians to desist from using “Boko Haram” or any Haram as political issue. And enjoins the press should be more sensitive to security issues in their reports.
Justice Nasir said the President should convene a special meeting of the council of heads of States, Traditional and Religious Leaders to discuss on how best to confront the challenges of insecurity across the nation.
