Sani Kaita jolted by Pillars, Enyimba exit

Nigeria midfielder Sani Kaita has told AfricanFootball.com he is disappointed the country’s representatives in this year’s CAF Champions League, Kano Pillars and Enyimba, have been eliminated at this stage of the competition.
Both Pillars and Enyimba crashed out of the Champions League on Sunday in the first round after they lost on aggregate to Moghreb Tetouan of Morocco and Smouha from Egypt, respectively.
Former Pillars and Enyimba star Kaita said Nigerian clubs still have a long way to go if they are to make appreciable impact on the continent.
“It is so unfortunate that Pillars and Enyimba who we were counting on have failed again on the continent,” Kaita said
“After I watched all Nigerian representatives in Abuja during the Super 4, I said they were not ready for the task on the continent.”
Kaita said he expects a lot more to be done in the domestic league to ensure the country’s top clubs are a lot more competitive overseas.
“If our team were to win the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, a lot has to be done,” he said.
“Our clubs must play at a standard which is higher than that of the Nigeria league and be better prepared.
“The league must start at almost same time with the rest of Africa because competitive football helps these other teams to be fitter in match situations than Nigerian clubs.”
