Salary deduction: Kano labour union threatens industrial action

The Joint Labour Union of different workers congress Wednesday issued a 14- day ultimatum to Kano state government to immediately pay back the deducted May 2020 salaries to all workers of the state or face industrial action.

The joint labour union which  met in Kano Wednesday and issued a communiqué said the action of the governor has clearly violated the agreement of 2019 and should be quickly reversed.

The union of workers  urged the state government to as matter of urgency fully implement the 30,000 minimum wage and also settle the unpaid arrears or face the consequence of a seven- day warning strike.

The NLC state chairman, Kabiru Ado Minjibir, who read the communiqué said  at the time they heard about the planned deduction of the worker’s salary, they warned government against it but silently, went ahead  to effect  what he described as a unilateral deduction.

“We reject in its entirety the illegal and illogical deductions of worker’s salaries for the month of May 2020 and called on government to respect the collective bargaining agreement reached between the government and labour side on consequential adjustment arising from N30,000 minimum wage law implementation in December 2019 and stop further deduction unconditionally”.

The NLC also frown with dismay and demanded for the  immediate payment of April- November 2019 arrears to all category of civil servants in the state as per the agreement reached between government and labour side  in December 2019 on consequential adjustment.

The meeting demanded the refund of relativity allowances to all entitled and affected members in the state for the month of May 2020 and to stop further deduction to respect the agreement reached in may 2018.
