Skills Acquisition Entrepreneur Development (SAED), department under the FCT NYSC, recently empowered over 24 corps members serving in Kuje area council.
Speaking during the exercise, the Chairman of the area council, Hon. Ishaku Shaban Tete, said the programme was designed to enable corps members to acquire skills “so that even after their service year they can be self employed.”
He said: “The occasion which is the first of its kind is for youth corps members serving in Kuje area council was organised by Skills Acquisition Entrepreneur Development (SAED) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).”
Tete, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Emmanuel Magaji, encouraged the corps members to engage themselves “in this kind of programme instead of waiting for white collar jobs so that at the end of the day, they will do one or two things to get little income for themselves.”
He charged them to be of good behaviour and law-abiding.
Earlier, the local government inspector in charge of NYSC in Kuje, Pastor Elisha Zira Dia, has requested the area council to provide a hall for SAED’s programmes. Responding, the representative of the council chairman assured of the council’s readiness to do everything possible to ensure that Women Development Centre (WDC), that was built by the FCT Social Development Secretariat was handed over to the council officially.
He said the Centre would be equipped and used as a training ground, especially for the unemployed, so that programmes like NYSC SAED would be used for their activities.
The graduands were trained on baking and decorations of cakes/snacks; others were production of detol, izal, soap, shampoo, perfume and body creams, etc.
They were presented with certificates at the end of the training.
Dignitaries at the occasion included the Zonal Inspector, NYSC Gwagwalada, who was represented by the FCT NYSC Coordinator, Mr Anthony Enweonwu, and the Head of SAED in the FCT, Mrs Edeboh.
