Sadiq thumbed up in Rangers win over Wigan

Sadiq Umar will be a handful to defenders in the Scottish Premier League (SPL) when he hits full fitness according to coach of Rangers Steven Gerrard who handed the on loan Roma forward his debut in yesterday’s friendly game against Wigan Athletic.
Rangers won 3-0 against Wigan in what was their final pre season game ahead of the start of the SPL next weekend and Sadiq was handed his debut by the coach of the team.
He was introduced in the second half and the 21 year old gave a performance which was overall pivoted to the improved second half display which saw them put three goals past Wigan, and Sadiq was heavily involved in one of the goals.
Although it was later credited as an own goal, the towering forward headed home a cross which was bound for the net before it came off the head of a Wigan defender who was trying to defend against the big striker.
Speaking on his performance Gerrard said, Sadiq will no doubt get better and rate his performance as encouraging considering the fact that he is yet to hit full fitness.
“He is still finding his feet and he is still a little bit rusty and trying to find that sharpness, but you saw glimpses of what he is about and I love it when he is aggressive, on the front foot and putting pressure on people”, Gerrard told the official website of the club.
“He runs hard and he is aggressive with and without the ball.
You can see there is potential in there for him to be a right handful, and that is what we want him to be.”
