Niger state House of Assembly has passed a resolution directing the governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, to remove his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Ibraheem Dooba, from office for incompetence.
The Assembly gave the directive yesterday following a motion of urgent public importance moved by Honourable Abdulmalik Mohammed Kabiru of Paiko state constituency.
Kabiru noted that the Assembly was concerned over the false reports in the media that the list of commissioner-nominees had been presented to it by the governor, adding that it was more worrisome that the false information emanated from the Chief Press Secretary.
He said the House was disappointed that a person of the standing of the Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Governor could be unprofessional in the execution of his duties and assumed the role that was not his.
While seconding the motion, Bashir Lokogoma of Wushishi constituency lamented the excesses of the Chief Press Secretary in misinforming the public about the state.
He described the Chief Press Secretary as “incompetent and lacking in projecting the good image of government,” adding that “he should be removed.”
Contributing, the member representing Kontagora 1 constituency, Ahmed Nuradeen, said the House “can no longer tolerate the unprofessional conducts of the Chief Press Secretary” and supported the call for his removal from office with immediate effect.
After heated debates, the legislators unanimously resolved that the governor should remove the CPS and the clerk was directed by the Speaker, Hon. Ahmed Marafa Guni, to communicate the resolution to the governor.
