S/ East govs condemn Rivers massacre – Umahi

The South East Governors’ Forum has condemned the New Year killings in Omoku, the headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of Rivers State.
Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Ebonyi state, Chief David Umahi, who described the incident as height of insanity and barbarism, said the mindless killings of innocent citizens was a national tragedy.
The Forum in a press statement issued in Abakiliki, described the killing of innocent worshippers who went for Crossover Night special prayer as one tragedy that must stop forthwith.
“We are here again faced with one of the greatest carnage and man’s inhumanity to man. To think that a man with blood running in his vein should open fire on innocent fellow citizens is so horrible and devastating.
“It is with great shock that I recieved the news and on behalf of my family and the patriotic citizens of Ebonyi State. I commiserate with my brother and friend, Governor Nyesom Wike, the people of Rivers state and the families of the deceased.
“Such inhuman act further puts question to our existence as sane and salubrious conscious beings”, a statement signed by his Press Secretary, Emmanuel Uzor, said noting that the forum commiserates with the government and people of Rivers State over the calamity.
The forum called on security agencies to intensify investigations into the massacre and ensure the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of the dastardly act.
