The Rotary Action Group for Peace (RAGFP), Kaduna branch, has sought the support of the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Mayirenso Saraso, to advance its peace building and climate initiatives in the state.
The group made the appeal during a visit to the GOC’s office in Kaduna on Thursday, where RAGFP Coordinator, Rtn. Babatunde Temidayo, outlined key proposals, including a tree-planting exercise and the production of drug awareness booklets for distribution to schools.
Temidayo said “the tree-planting project, which would begin with 500 seedlings in 2025, aims to foster environmental sustainability.”
He also urged the GOC to assist with funding for the reproduction of 1,500 copies of Drugs and You, a booklet designed to educate students on the dangers of drug abuse.
In response, Major General David Nwakonobi, who represented the GOC, commended the group’s initiatives and assured them that their requests would be relayed to the GOC. He also apologized for the GOC’s absence, explaining that he was on an official assignment.
RAGFP, commissioned in October 2024, promotes peace through initiatives such as interfaith dialogue, climate action, and social cohesion.
