By Ayoni M. Agbabiaka

A senior principal officer of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), popularly called VIO, FCT, Abuja, Mr. Emeka Valentine Onyegbulem, has published a book titled “Road Traffic Administration and Management in Nigeria, Insider Perspective.”

The book which will be launched today at FEBSON Mall Wuse zone 4, is an update of the existing laws and methods of traffic management aimed at controlling the rising statistics of road crashes and multiple collisions on Nigeria roads.

According to Onyegbulem, his 15 years of field experience in road and traffic management informed his decision to write the book to educate both the motorists and traffic officers.
He added that human factors are mainly responsible for road crashes in the country, pointing out that the inability of government to provide certain mechanism in place is also a major problem that must be addressed.

He said: “A lot of issues come to my mind, especially the way a lot of people die on the road and the manner in which people use the road which usually gives me the chance to put something on paper so that it can educate motorists and the road users in order to minimise the crashes and manage the traffic situation on our roads.”
On whether the drivers will have time to read the book, he said: “They will have time to read because it is written in simple English with some pictorial attraction, especially the road signs which deals with the motorists particularly.”
According to him, some of these motorists cannot interpret the signs.
“It is my aim to make it in a simpler way for them to understand the signs.”
Many dignitaries in the transport and road management, other stakeholders, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed are expected to grace the occasion.
