Rivers: Degema council boss moves to revolutionalise agriculture

Chairman of Degema local government area of Rivers state, Dr. Agiriye Monima Harry, has hinted that his administration will give adequate focus to agriculture in a bid to boost food security in the area.

Monima Harry made this declaration during a courtesy visit from members of the Rivers State Cooperative Federation/ Finance Agency Limited (RISTCOFETA) on Thursday.

The chairman emphasised that agriculture is on the front burner of his administration’s bid to boost food supply and distribution, in line with the vision of the Rivers state government.

Earlier, the cooperative group, led by Mrs Tamunoiboma T. Dapper, had presented a three-point action plan to the chairman, that include the construction of a technical educational institute aimed at training youngsters to engage in agriculture from primary to tertiary school levels.

They also plan to establish a consumption pattern by partnering with manufacturers to bring commodities from the factories to local government area wholesale, thereby reducing the cost of logistics and transportation. This, according to them, will ultimately make the commodities cheaper for the local traders.

They further requested for a cooperative structure in the council premises that will serve as liaison office for all the communities in the LGA.

Those on the visit include Pastor Frazer O. Wokoma, Pastor Prayer O.S. Kio, Evangelist Daniel, and Constance Abam.

Others are Ibiso James Jacob, Boma Abali, Charles Sylvanus, Flora Bille, Mrs. Tamunosaki Fresh, Honest Daerego Harry, Ebenezer Nomane and Pastor Iyalla Harliquin.
