The Rivers state House of Assembly held its regular sitting presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo, at the temporal Hallowed Chambers, Admin Block, Government House, Port Harcourt.
During plenary sitting Tuesday, two bills scaled first reading on the floor of the House. They are the Rivers State College of Nursing Science Bill, 2024, sponsored by the Deputy Speaker, Orubienimigha Adolphus Timothy, and the Rivers State Real Estate Regulatory Authority Bill, 2024, sponsored by the leader of the House, Hon. Sokari Goodboy Sokari.
The Rivers State College of Nursing Science Bill, 2024, aims to establish a college of nursing science in the state with high-quality nursing education towards promoting and developing competent nursing professionals.
On the other hand, the Rivers State Real Estate Regulatory Authority Bill, 2024, is intended to regulate the real estate sector in Rivers state, promote transparency, accountability, and fairness in the industry, towards creating a more organised and trustworthy real estate market in the state, ultimately benefiting both developers and homebuyers.
The two bills which were thereafter presented on the floor of the house, scaled through first reading of the Assembly.
Other items on the order of the day that were attended included; the receipt of the state Auditor General’s report on the local government councils, and the receipt of a petition against NNPCL on oil spill in Iloma community in Bonny local government area.
In his remark, the speaker, Oko-Jumbo assured of the commitment of the House towards the expeditious consideration of the petition and audited reports, while ruling on the passage of the two bills to the next legislative stage.
