Edo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday said a Benin High Court restraining order on the House of Assembly deputy speaker, Festus Ebea, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and three other PDP legislators was not binding “because the party has appealed against the order.”
The state PDP chairman, Chief Dan Orbih, described the judiciary in the state as “sick,” adding that it must rise above its partisan position if it was to be respected by Edo people.
Orbi, who also called on the state government to allow the House to carry out its business without interference denied that the legislators who recently dumped the APC for PDP were monetarily induced.
However, the minority whip of the House, Hon. Kingsley Ehigiamusoe dismissed Ajotu’s claim, adding that “It was the sergeant-at-arm that gave us the mace.”
Ehigiamusoe, who was flanked by other lawmakers vowed that the suspended members would attend sitting at the next adjournment date, even as he noted that only their constituents could restrain them from sitting.
