In a press conference organised by the ASUU-FUAM , Makurdi branch in Lokoja yesterday , the acting chairperson of the union, Bemgba Anjembe, narrated that one of their members, Christie O. Agbulu, a lecturer with the department of Biological Sciences, travelled to Lokoja from Makurdi and was abducted by kidnappers immediately she arrived the Kogi state capital on Saturday, November 26, 2016 and since, had not been released.
According to her, the abductors on that fateful day, used cell phone of the victim and demanded for a ransom of N150, 000 before they could free, but the sum N100, 000 was paid to her bank account and the kidnappers quickly used Agbulu’s ATM card to withdrew the money .
She added that since that time the union had not heard anything from the abductors, stressing that the victim was yet to be released.
The union leader noted that “on November 30, 2016 we were in Lokoja and met with the police on that day and we were assured that something was being done, the following day, we went back to the Police ‘A’ Division Lokoja and they reassured us that they were in control of the situation and would soon find her.
“But, today it is almost three weeks since our colleague was abducted and there is no iota of information about her whereabouts, even the abductors no longer call us. We were constrained to petition the Inspector General of Police on the 5th of December, 2016 over this ugly situation to which no response has been received”
The union leaders, therefore, appealed to the security agencies and Governor Yahaya Bello, who is the chief security officer of the state, to do everything possible to rescue the innocent woman.
They also appealed to the general public who might come in contact with her or has any information about her to report to the nearest police station.
