Reps summon LMC over Giwa, Nembe City ouster

Days after organizers of the Glo-Nigeria Premier League (NPL), League Management Company (LMC), ejected the only two privately-owned clubs, Giwa FC of Jos and Nembe City of Yenogoa from the 2013/2014 league season, the House of Representatives through its House Committee on Sports has asked LMC to appear before them today.
LMC had last week announced that both Giwa and Nembe City would not be allowed to participate in the league after they failed to meet the stipulated requirements by the league managers. The announcement which was made public barely 48 hours before the kickoff of the current season which took off last weekend prevented the clubs from playing their first matches against Kano Pillars and Rangers, respectively.
Since then, there has been a general condemnation of the LMC decision that denied the two clubs from participating in the league owing to their inability to garner enough resources to meet up with N150,000 players’ minimum wage after the general congress of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) met to ratify clubs’ promotion and relegation.
Reacting to the development, chairman House Committee on Sports, Hon. Godfrey Gaiya, said: “I personally don’t seem to understand what they (LMC) are pushing for. In any case, we are going to seat with both parties to iron things out. One of the clubs involved in the ejection has sent in their protest letter”
